Survey Shows Mexican Consumers Unsatisfied With Their Carriers Call Protection Features
Mexican Consumers 3x More Willing to Leave Carrier Based on Call Transparency Features Than Those in the United States
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – January 18, 2018 – First Orion, provider of data and phone call transparency solutions, today announced the results of a new study that shows Mexican consumers want more features to block phone scammers.
To better understand the kinds of calls Mexicans are facing, First Orion commissioned a survey of mobile subscribers in Mexico and found a growing number of users are willing to change from their current cell phone carrier to one that offered protection from fraudulent calls.
Over 70 percent of those surveyed would be willing to pay monthly for a service that identifies callers and blocks fraudulent and nuisance calls compared to just 58 percent of consumers in the United States. Compared to respondents in the US, Mexican consumers received three times less scam calls in the past month, but are three times more likely to change from their current carrier to one that offered call identification and protection features.
Unsurprisingly, 72 percent of Mexican consumers do not believe there is such thing as a good robocall. However, 67 percent said that an automated call from their pharmacy would not be considered a nuisance.
Over 95 percent of respondents feel it is important to know who is calling before answering, and nearly 90 percent believe it is the responsibility of their cell phone operator to block scam and fraudulent calls or text from coming to their phone.
“Fraudulent calls are not an issue limited to the United States,” said Scott Ballantyne, Chief Marketing Officer of First Orion. “Scammers are constantly looking for ways to rip off vulnerable people. Mexican consumers are especially interested in services that could help identify and prevent scam or fraudulent calls. At First Orion, our call transparency technology can analyze billions of events in real time, allowing us to identify and stop scammers before they even reach the consumer.”
Other interesting facts include:
- Over 76 percent of respondents said they’d received a call they believe to be a scam
- Nearly two-thirds of respondents would switch from their current carrier to one that blocked of identified incoming telemarketing and fraudulent calls
- Close to 75 percent of those surveyed would enable a feature on their mobile phone that only allowed saved contact numbers to ring and automatically directed unknown numbers to voicemail
- Over 92 percent of respondents are interested in a free mobile phone service that would let you know why someone was calling while your phone was ringing (call category, business type, additional information about call)
