Call Authentication is First Orion’s end-to-end call security feature that verifies the businesses’ outbound calling number, the phone number being called, and the specific time the call is being made.
This calling feature is the technology included in First Orion’s INFORM® with Call Authentication, INFORM® with Logo and SENTRY® Call Blocking solutions that mitigates phone number spoofing. Integration is required to provide this advanced security, which enables the ability to see calls occurring in the mobile network in real-time to determine its legitimacy. Businesses can choose to integrate via REST API or SIP.
How it Works
Call Authentication creates a unique key that ties together the calling number, the called number, and the timeframe in which the call takes place. This unique key is sent to the recipient’s carrier as verification. The carrier then compares the key to the call details and if the key matches, the call is successfully authenticated.
An authenticated call enables the business’s brand to be delivered. If not authenticated, the illegitimate call can be blocked. As the technology included in our INFORM with Logo and SENTRY Call Blocking solutions, Call Authentication ensures your brand – business name and logo appear only on verified calls or illegitimate calls are blocked from reaching end-users. Treatment of the business’s call is dependent on the purchase of INFORM Branded Calling, INFORM with Logo or SENTRY Call Blocking, and the creation of a calling program in First Orion’s Customer Portal.
Technical Requirements
Call Authentication requires integration to verify real-time network activity. First Orion offers flexible integration options via REST API or our patented SIP Call Routing Configuration. You can preview integration documentation at developer.firstorion.com.
Call Authentication via API
First Orion’s API integration enables seamless integration with CRMs, CCaaS, CPaaS, and UCaaS platforms. Our scalable architecture supports high calling volumes while also allowing real-time, network level access to call activity. Our API provides flexible and secure workflows to adapt to various business needs. It is compatible with platforms like Amazon Connect, Ring Central, Vonage and Zoom.

API Call Flow
- The business sends call information to First Orion via REST API.
- First Orion’s Digital Communication Exchange creates a unique key for call details, including the calling-number and the number being called, and identifies the timeframe the key should be active for the call to be made.
- First Orion sends the unique key to the called-party’s carrier via REST API so that it can be used by the carrier to compare when the call is received.
- The business initiates the call.
- If the calling details match the unique key, the call is branded with INFORM. If there is no match, the call is not branded or is blocked with SENTRY Call Blocking.
NOTE: Treatment of the authenticated call is dependent on the purchase of INFORM Branded Calling, INFORM with Logo, or SENTRY Call Blocking and the creation of a program in the Customer Portal.
Call Authentication via SIP
First Orion’s patented SIP Call Routing Configuration enables seamless connectivity with carrier networks, CCaaS and UCaaS platforms to ensure reliable voice delivery. Our scalable SIP architecture integrates as an additional SIP Trunk acting as the primary route but not requiring the complexity of things like media. The standard SIP signaling stream routes high call volumes with low-latency call handling, and intelligent network-level routing with built-in redundancy and failover. This flexible and secure signaling framework enables businesses with the ability to maintain real-time visibility into call activity. It is compatible with platforms like Genesys, Cisco, Microsoft Teams, Oracle and any industry standard SBC.

SIP Call Flow
- The business initiates a call directing their SIP traffic to First Orion as the primary route.
- First Orion collects information from the SIP INVITE via our patented Call Authentication configuration and creates a unique key with the calling details, including the calling- number and the number being called.
- First Orion then redirects the calling platform to continue the call to the calling-party’s carrier.
- The business send the call to the calling-party’s carrier.
- First Orion sends the unique key to the called-party’s carrier via REST API so that it can be used by the carrier to compare when the call is received.
- If the calling details match the unique key, the call is branded with INFORM Branded Calling or INFORM with Logo. If there is no match, the call is not branded or is blocked with SENTRY Call Blocking.
NOTE: Treatment of the authenticated call is dependent on the purchase of INFORM Branded Calling, INFORM with Logo, or SENTRY Call Blocking and the creation of a program in the Customer Portal
